Tutor Time Permission Slip
Parker Elementary will continue to offer Tutor Time this school year. We are offering a daily "Tutor Time" that will be used by any student who seems to be having difficulty keeping up with schoolwork and completing assignments on time. This "Tutor Time" will be held daily from 3:30-4:30 in the Title I classroom on Monday thru Thursday.
As our staff is working towards school improvement goals of improving Math and Reading scores, we have found that one of the reasons for student failure or lower achievement has been late or incomplete assignments. We’ve decided to target this problem area by providing a "Tutor Time" after school daily that will be used by students having difficulty in organization, time management, or needing special help in subject areas. There appear to be several reasons why sometimes elementary students have difficulty completing work on time. Some reasons are as follows: not managing study time at school or home, not being organized when assignments haven’t been completed during study time in class or during study halls, not bringing the "right" book or worksheet home to finish, frustration when a student doesn’t understand something, or not "wanting to do it", etc. The "Tutor Time" should help most students in these and other areas.
How does a student get assigned to "Tutor Time"? Any student who does not complete a homework assignment on time more than once during a quarter without just cause (extended illness with a doctor’s written excuse, family emergency such as death, serious illness, tragedy) will be automatically required to attend "Tutor Time" from 3:30-4:30 on the school day the assignment is late. Because academics take precedence over extra-curricular activities, exceptions will not be made for practices and games. All students will be given a "homework pass" to use one time each quarter in the event of simply forgetting an assignment at home or "spacing off" an assignment that was due. The "homework passes" cannot be accumulated and used in other quarters if it was unused the quarter it was intended for. When a "homework pass" is used by a student, the late assignment is "forgiven" that day, but due the next school day. Following are the steps we will take in assigning students to "Tutor Time".
We are requesting that parents/guardians assist their son/daughter in being organized and "on top" of their daily assignments. With a team effort between school, students, and parents, we are certain that the problem of students not completing work on time will be greatly improved.
